"The Wages of Destruction is a brilliant, fascinating exploration of Nazi Germany's economy. Adam Tooze does an excellent job at writing about the personalities and issues of the Germany's economy, and logically dispels a variety of myths cultivated by prior historians. Tooze did a superb job at objectively describing the realities around the Holocaust, the German "war machine", slave labor, the relationship between the Nazi party and commerical/industrial companies, and how the problem of low amounts of food impacted all policy within the regime. This is not a light, easy, or basic history, the reader should have either a serious interest in economic history or the history of Nazi Germany to consider reading this book. This book also requires the reader to have an established grasp of the history being covered, and also deals with many complex charts, figures, and explanations. Overall, a magnificent book that applies top-notch academic study to the important (but often overlooked) subject of economics and economy in the Third Reich."
"A very interesting economic history of Nazi Germany. Adam Tooze presents a fast growing nation that only appears strong in the eyes of the world. The Nazi Economy collapsed because it was based on weak foundations. This is a very unique book and so far a very pleasant experience."
"An excellent "contrarian" view of the economics of the Third Reich, though very difficult to follow without already already having a fairly good recall of dates, names, places, battles, and campaigns of World War II."
