"I picked this up at the library to see how it compared to the old Marvel Universe. It looks like it will be less dense, but covers some newer characters and plotlines.
...
Well, some of the choices for expanded entries are odd (I mean, do we need 2/3 of a page for Man-Beast?) and I've noticed a few glaring errors in the images and tags. Its still fun, though. And I like the two-page spreads showing comics from the different decades."
"Ah, mercy, yes, here it is! My lifelong addiction, the ebullient and highly successful Marvel Universe. Everyone who's anyone (and then some -- Spider-Man 2099, must we?) is here, in brightly colored layout and informative text. Writer/editor/publisher/adjective-abuser Stan Lee's (and Jack Kirby's and Steve Ditko's, let us not forget!) toybox is in full view here, with A-Z of characters, super groups, organizations, and a quickie breakdown of Marvel Comics over the decades. Although I prefer DeFalco, Sanderson, and Brevoort's "Marvel Chronicle" (ISBN 978-0756641238) as a source of detailed info on Marvel, it dovetails nicely with this volume to tell you damn near everything you need to know (besides Bullpen spats) about uppity Skrulls, bad Spidey relationships, Wolverine's myserious ability to be in two teams on two separate coasts concurrently, and why the Scarlet Witch is a dangerous mamma-jamma! (Okay, it DOESN'T tell you how Wolverine does it, but I'D sure like to know.) Excelsior! Make Mine Marvel forebber & ebber. I love Squirrel Girl!! THERE! MY HORRIBLE SECRET IS OUT. No, really. Buy this book, eh? 'Nuff said."
