"I really like Jon Stewart, and I assumed that his book would be an extention of the show. I was right and wrong. "America" is written smartly in a textbook form, dredging up memories of school which adds to the quarkiness of the book. And while are many good sections of the book-there are a couple of items I felt Jon went over the line-including cutout dolls of the Supreme Court Justices and some really graphic behind the scenes account of what happens in The Justices private chambers. The book also drags towards the end, and I finished it just to say I did. I prefer Colbert's book over Stewart's, but both are amusing and an easy read."
"As a fellow alum of The College of William and Mary, I expected good things from Jon Stewart in this "book". He didn't disappoint, although this was obviously a big team effort. It's a comical look at America's history and political setup, with just enough truth to make the message he's getting across come through (which is the US may be pretty screwed up, but it could be worse probably). While I enjoyed it as a "sit down and read for 10 minutes at a time" sort of book, I would like to see an actual viewpoint book by him, along the lines of Al Franken's writing, or the multiple 'pundits' writing from the conservative side. Think this one was fun and funny, but one that had humor but a more current perspective would definitely be worth the read.
All in all, if you are a fan of his, definitely worth reading at some point."
"If you love Jon Stewart, the Daily Show, Stephen Colbert and all of the correspondents/writers, while despising W, you will love this book. A witty, sardonic look at history, the election and, of course, America, it made me laugh out loud. Samantha Bee's sections on Canada were priceless. If you can get past being depressed about all the parts that are so very true and laugh through the pain, this book is perfect. It was like a giant Celexa tablet for me during the dark years of the Bush presidency. I'd like to get the audio version now and listen to it to see how it holds up. Stewart et. al. are just a bunch of smarty pants and I can't resist them."
"I am very fond of the way Jon and his team cut to the heart of what a circus we live in, and lightens the crushing reality with a style of humor that helps lift me out of the cynical perspective and hopelessness that usually come with the ugly truth with some hearty lol moments. The balance is genius and this book has carried that endearing approach to cover a wider array of how our system is ideally designed to function, covering key points in history and comparisons to other systems before pointing out how far off track we had brought it and where we should be."
