"In this book, the main character, Cyd had just broken up with her boyfriend, Shrimp, who moved to a different country. Cyd, wanting to go to culinary school, moved to New York City. She moved in with her gay, cupcake making, half brother. After giving up on culinary school, Cyd finds a job at the cafe next door. Several months later, Shrimp mysteriously shows up at her door.
I connected this book to "A Yellow Raft in Blue Water." In that book, Christine had a lot of problems with her brother, Lee. Cyd also had a lot of problems and arguments with her brother. Daniel was always bossing Cyd around, so she resented him. In "A Yellow Raft in Blue Water," Christine had a lot of problems with Lee. She and his best friend didn't get along, and she did something that really made him mad. That is how I connected this book to "A Yellow Raft in Blue Water."
I didn't like this book very much. That's why I only gave it two stars. I gave it such a low rating because I thought the characters were very bland and the plot was uninteresting. I honestly would not recommend this book to anyone."
"This had to be the best book out of the three. I really enjoyed reading it, it was as fun as the last ones. There were moments that really pulled me in and moments that got me happy and sad. CC moved to new york after her denial to shrimps proposal. After living with her brother danny she wasn't sure if she made the right choice. She met new people and lost some people. You'll have to see how the story ends. I love the author and the stories. The ending was shocking but almost predictable."
"I enjoyed Gingerbread and Shrimp, but got tired of hearing about "true love" when listening to Cupcake. It was still a sort of fun read, but I was impatient for CC to stop being the pampered, self-absorbed "hellion" and make some responsible decisions."
"Rachel Cohn is an extremely clever writer, but I hate to think eighth graders are ready for this sort of story. Don't high school kids read adult books, so the young adult genre is read by middle schoolers? I couldn't recommend this to my students, but I MIGHT put it on my shelf."
