"Definitely, Joseph Delaney if one of my top 3 best authors, along with Phillip Pullman and Bernard Cornwell.
The Wardstone Chronicles #2 is even better than the previous one, and if I could give it six stars, I would.
It follows Thomas, John and Alice in the quest to defeat The Bane. But, bah, you can have a resume of the plot within Wikipedia.
My humble opinion is that Delaney can make us shackle our bones. There are a lot of situations in this book and in #1 that made me enjoy a horror story. It's a very dark book, and I've never seen anything like it. For me, there is plenty of originality in his books.
Also, it tells about witches and night-monsters, and specially ghosts. I know that his ghosts are very much like in the movie The Sixth Sense, but still, its creepy.
I'd say it's a must read for everyone. I'll definitely read all the series."

"I didn't like this as much as the first book, but it was still good. More than being absolutely terrifying, it was super creepy. That seems weird, since the bad thing was an evil god-like entity, whereas in book 1 it was a witch, but I guess that down-home, every day evil is more real to me.
