About this title: Dawn Dais hated running. And it didn't like her much, either. Her fitness routine consisted of avoiding the stairs in her own house, because who really has the energy to climb stairs? It was with this exercise philosophy firmly in place that she set off to complete a marathon. "No I do not plan to run a marathon. But after being a couch potato for the entire month of Ramadan, I got really motivated to start running again, so I picked up this book to fuel my motivation. And fuel it it did! This is a fun and very entertaining read. The author is very sarcastic and witty and she hates running, but she ran a marathon! That's 26.2 miles (about the distance between College Park and Ellicott City!). And basically the premise is that if someone who hates running that much can do it, so can you. More importantly, no matter how painful the journey, you can set and achieve long-term goals, and you will find that you are better off for it in the end.
Now be aware that as far as guides go for running a marathon, this is not the best guide for all of the specifics of training. Its really more useful for motivation and just fun light reading. Also, another reason why I did not give it a higher rating was because the last couple of chapters seemed repetitive to me. But believe me, I do not have trouble putting down books I do not like, and I had no trouble getting through this one."
"I absolutely loved this book. Her sarcastic sense of humor cracked me up. It made me laugh as I could relate to her experiences as a non-runner trying to run. A couple of parts had me laughing out loud and as I read one excerpt to my husband, we both laughed so hard our stomachs hurt.
A must read if you've trained or are training for a race, from a 5k to a marathon."
