"I've been itching to read something different and was just thinking the other day how I hadn't read a real honest-to-goodness fantasy in a long time. While this book is shelved in the "romance" section of the library, it felt more like a traditional fantasy with a little bit more romance than you usually get. The world was interesting, the characters are great and the story is intriguing. I think the pace is perfect - I never felt like the story dragged or that I had to wait for an explanation about something in the world before we could pick back up with the story.
I can't wait to get the 2nd book from the library and see what happens next."
"Almost didn't admit I read this because I couldn't write very positively about it. So--- In a magic kingdom far, far away --- a king looses his magic and goes in search of the predicted or promised person to wield the other magic sward in the kingdom. His youngest brother, the archmage of the kingdom, finally goes in search of him when he hasn't returned in a reasonable amount of time. Meanwhile in the farthest corner of the kingdom, on a remote island, a woman, one of the finest mercinaries, is sent by her lord to deliver a certain magic knife to the king. Good story just takes way too long with not much being accomplished. Left it set up for the rest of the story --- in another book. Yikes, another series. However, this was written long enough ago that the next two books were available -- so I read the other two books."

"I really enjoyed this book. The plot was extrememly interesting. I've read a lot of books about magic, and this book does follow a lot of the same ideas about magic, but this would be one of my favorites. I really liked the two main characters and the supporting characters were also very interesting and intertaining. Even though this book is a fantasy-romance, it is generally clean. The romance is basically the love between the main characters as they keep it secret from one another. You get to read each of their thoughts about the other person and how much they love each other, but nothing I would call uncomfortable or innapropiate. A complaint would be that there was a little two much swearing for my taste. The characters vent there frustration by cursing. I can't wait to read the next book in this series."
