"I liked this book the best of the 3 books in the trilogy. Fitzwilliam George Alexander Darcy is an intelligent and capable human being---it's interesting to see into his life and see how he kind of seems incapable of dressing himself. Good thing he has such a dedicated valet to bathe, shave, and clothe him. :-) I know--I know--that's just how it was for the rich gentry in 19th century England. Nevertheless, it was fun to see how utterly smitten he was with Elizabeth. He really does undergo significant character development as his love for Elizabeth evolves from his original self-centered proposal to his later love which really wanted what was best for Elizabeth. I particularly liked the details of his making the arrangements for oily Wickham to marry foolish, selfish, immature Lydia."
"Would Darcy have used so many exclamation points? No. But I'm sure what Aidan was thinking, as she wrote this, is what a frenzy the poor guy was in. I guess I can overlook the punctuation.
Here, we see a much changed Fitwilliam. We pick up in Kent, when he meets up with Elizabeth again, and see how things look from his side of the Parson's lane, which is great. There are some moments of invention and imagination here, and it's good to feel the pain that Darcy feels. Because you really do undergo it all with him.
Again, there are some crazy plot twists here and there, but whatever. Aidan has earned them by virtue of her devotion to the subject, which has taken three volumes to be fully expressed. If you're looking for something more like what Austen might have turned out, go for Helen Halstead's Mr. Darcy Presents His Bride. If you want a story, check out our girl Aidan."
"The final chapter in The Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman Series. A mixed bag, really. This book covers Darcy's journey into Kent through the eventual proposal. There are many satisfying elements to seeing these familiar scenes from Darcy's point of view. Why he proposes, writes the letter, goes away again. Fans of the A&E movie (and that would be everyone who chooses to read a P&P fan fic, I imagine) will enjoy his determination to get over Miss Elizabeth; "I shall conquer this!" The searching out of Wickham is a lot of fun and makes the addition of his Byronic best friend, Dy, pay off. The Irish Revolution stuff that was started in the second book returns in this one. It's not the strongest plotline and Lady Sylvanie was never any competition for Elizabeth Bennett."
"This is a comment on the entire Pamela Aidan trilogy ("An Assembly Such as This," "Duty and Desire" and "These Three Remain"). The trilogy takes place during the timeframe of Jane Austen's novel, "Pride and Prejudice". It is Mr. Darcy's perspective on all the events-from the dance at the Meryton Assembly Room to the finale. She goes more in depth into what Mr. Darcy's thoughts and feelings would have been. She also creates some additional story lines that are incorporated very nicely into the well-known story (i.e., a little bit more about what happened at Netherfield as well as what took place during the time Mr. Darcy left Netherfield until he and Elizabeth meet at Rosings).
I appreciated reading about Mr. Darcy's deep feelings toward Elizabeth almost from the very beginning of their acquaintance as well as how he dealt with transforming himself after she so blatantly refused him.
My favorite new aspects that Aidan brought to the beloved story were Darcy's relationship with Georgiana and his friendship with a man named Dy.
Aidan did a lovely job keeping true to the spirit of mannerisms, grace and decorum that are authentic to all of Austen's novels as well as to that period of history. Since she remained so true to these essentials, I think she would write an excellent sequel, if she ever had the desire to do so.
I enjoyed this trilogy very much and highly recommend them."
