"Oh I just love Christine Feehans series about her GhostWalkers!
Dr Whitley started experimenting on very young children, female children he bought from orphanages, to try to enhance latent talents, like telepathy, extraordinary smell and sight. When the government got on his track, he adopted them out and covertly started with soldiers. But his plan is bigger. He wants to create a super soldier worthy the name, so his bigger goal is to get his hand of an offspring of two enhanced peoples.
Jack escapes from his imprisonment in the jungle outside Kinshasa. He is shoot but manages to get away. When his body is about to give up, a woman steps up and helps him. When Jack gets a whiff of Briony he is lost. He wants her even though he knows he is a emotionally dead man.
In this book Jack and Briony are often in hiding and therefore the story isn´t so full off explosions and car chases, no it´s more close up. And I do love that. We get a really deep insight in both Jack and Briony, their secret fears and hopes. On the other hand, I get really annoyed about how Briony handles certain things and that she takes ages to understand. Man, she is supposed to be intelligent, for crying out loud!
But if you like your special ops guy, you just can´t miss this series."
"I think this book is my favorite of the series. Jack is a hard man, but he does have a code that he lives by. He is haunted by things that happened in his past that definately color how he views relationships with women. Briony is able to sneak past those issues. While at first glance she seems like a fluff ball, she does have a inner strength that everyone including her family misses.
What I really like about this book is how it is now a given within the Ghostwalkers that Peter Whitney is alive. Once they and you realize this it is eye opening. This book also further delves into just what he exactly has been doing to the men and women, and also bringing out new horrors they as a group are going to have to deal with.
Some of these new horrors find their way to Briony. She ends up in a situation where Jack is the only one that she feels is able to help her. She is forced to go to him and ask him for protection. Here she mets Ken, Jack's twin. Watching her interact with Jack and Ken was funny as they settle into being around each other. Jack was just so awkward trying to navigate the whole "normal" man / woman relationship issues. Briony sees through his whole tough guy issues and after learning about his past knows Jack would never do the same thing. Seeing Jack try to control the situation and the whole fight about the book and the new additions each were making to it was a great gag to relieve tension. Also seeing Briony and Ken settle into a teasing fun relationship was nice too. The chase and fight scenes were intense, especially scaling the cliff to get out. I sure wouldn't have been able to do that!!
In the end they learned more than they wanted to and now have a new specific girl to find."
"It was a little difficult getting into the book in the beginning. Once geting past the initial plot set up I found the story interesting and it kept my interest. This was not one of Christine Feehan's best storties, however I did enjoy the storyline and the relationships between twin Ghostwalkers Jack and Ken Norton and Jack and Briony."
