"Indispensable communication skills that should be part of every parent's repertoire! The book is an easy read, but the principles are not always easy to apply in the heat of the moment. Practice makes perfect. Highly recommended!"
"The authors take a fairly no nonsense view of parent and teenager communications, mostly involving what appear to be some typically standard principles found in many counseling environments. The basic concepts are that tone and content can impact a lot about the way that the teen (or parent for that matter) respond to communication attempts and that many problems can be resolved through adequate communication techniques. While in general, much of the advice seems reasonable, and I've noticed practically helpful as well, I do feel that the authors definitely have a pretty liberal view on the accountability portion of the parent/teen relationship.
Overall, worth the read and definitely helpful for those of us trying to navigate the murky waters of parenting a teen, especially in learning alternate ways to communicate without a constant escalation cycle of negativity. I may have given it four stars, except for the liberal component and the fact that I'm not really a huge non-fiction fan in general. ;)"
