After viewing the movie "Supersize Me", I am no longer shocked by the ingredients in fast food. What truly disturbed me about this book however, was the history of marketing in the fast food industry. It is a most brilliant scheme and is the perfect example of deception and commercialization. The way the book was written seems as if it was targeted towards young readers, for some parts were redundant. However, it kept my interest. I think I would have liked the book better if I felt it were targeted towards adults. Also, if it were longer and had more statistics, imagery, and went more into detail. Like the unabridged addition. The first book is more of a brief guide, but they did a great job in getting their point across."
"I started reading this book in late August and finished it in late September. I was incredibly amazed by how good and shocking this book was. The title saids "Chew On This:Everything You Don't Want To Know About Fast-Food". Of course when I opended the book up, I expected a list of gross things that they put in fast-foods that they dont want you to know about but man was I wrong. I wasn't expecting much from the book but as I read the introduction, it told me more about what I was going to read over the next couple of weeks. The book tells you about the history of fast-food restuarants and how entrepenuers shaped and sculpted the nation, changing it into a lazy, obesed and unhealthy nation.
When I finished this book, I really felt like I was being fooled this whole time by fast-food industries with their children-friendly commercials.I really thought that fast food industries treated their animals and staffs well and made healthy foods that taste delicious, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth. I'm glad that I've read this book, it really opened my eyes and see the other side to fast-food restuaruants. Here's a quote from the book,"Even in this fast-food nation, you can still have it your own way."
"Every kid I know knows them , I bet none of them can even remember a time when they weren't surrounded by these things, these things being fast food joints. We all know the smell of greasy fries, a juicy hamburger and a soda served in a simple bag with quick service, and we are all very aware what damage it can do on your body and the living things around us but we ignore it and just keep eating. This great book gives you a peek inside the fast food industry, making you unhappily aware of all the ugly truths behind there ways. This was a book I couldn't put down, no matter how gross it was."
