About this title: Susan Michaels was the hottest reporter on the Beltway Beat, until a major scandal ruined her life and left her writing stories about alien babies and Elvis sightings. Life as she once knew it is over, or so she thinks until she gets a lead on the biggest story in town: "The Seattle Slayer". She heads to the local animal shelter, expecting a tip on the latest rash of killings. Instead, she gets a story about the mayor feeding citizens to a ring of vampires...yeah. Just another day in her life. Then she gets talked into adopting a cat she's allergic to. Her first thought is to neuter the cat. ...

"this one was more realistic (well, as a realistic as a vap / shifter book can be). they both seemed way more sensible than most. the pair took some time before falling madly in love. no one is giving up immortality and their entire way of life of for the other. i love that he said no to getting his soul back from the heifer-goddess.
out of all of the shifter books i have read i never once thought about what would happen if you were allergic. that cracked me up.
Nick. i felt bad for him about his mother and perceived betrayal by ash, but now he is literally blaming him for the weather? oh get off it kiddo. i am sure ash can also somehow snap his fingers and make cancer cease to exist, end world hunger, and make the world all kiss and hug. does that mean he should? or that he could without other catastrophic events happening? not so much. even taking into account grief stricken rage this is a bit much. i hope we see him get shaped up or shipped out soon."
"Let's dump in exposition in the first 14 pages, shall we? And then sprinkle the same information again in people's dialogue later. Fantasy Lover, the first Dark-Hunter book, was soooooooo good--funny with some back story thrown in to give the guy depth. I was willing to keep reading her books. But I am totally not into the whole god-goddess petty squabble stuff that motivates the whole series, and I stopped reading after a few. I picked this book up because it had a shape-shifter involved. But this deep into the series (#14), there's a whole lot of politics to catch up on, and I have no patience for it.
The writing is so cliche-ridden as well, and it grates on me the more longer I read the book. Not to mention the superlatives that get strewn around--best, first, bravest, strongest--UGH!
Also--hello!--the lovers don't even see how they're going to live happily ever after. They get mated, but Rayven holds off on them getting bonded. Never mind all the loose ends hanging. This book wasn't satisfying on any level.
I'm happy for Sherrilyn Kenyon that she's making a good living off this, but I really preferred the light-hearted, really funny love story she gave us in Fantasy Lover."
"I'm not really into the whole modern-day vampire genre, but this book may have been better if I had tried to get my hands on the first book in the series (instead of the 14th).
The writer liked to character hop, usually with little to no warning, (ie: mid-paragraph) making it a bit confusing at first and irritating later on.
Susan was rather annoying and it always felt like she was trying too hard to get attention/praise. Although, realistically, with her childhood, it does make sense.
I didn't really finish the book, however I did skim to see how the characters ended up. (Which, they ended up how I thought.)
All-in-all, it was "okay". I'd recommend it to vampire fans, esp ones who prefer the modern day settings."
"This book deals with a dark-hunter who is a shape shifter. He can shift into a leopard. He meets a reporter whose journalism career has gone from hotshot to cheesy magazine writing. She gets mixed up in the squire & dark-hunter war with the daimens. I enjoyed this one because of the quick retorts and humor the female character shows throughout the book. She takes nothing from anyone and quickly worms her way into the dark-hunter's heart. I find this series fascinating and will keep reading."
