I cannot think of anything much more dissociative and perfect than spending some hours of the evening inside Leonard Cohen's mind. I do not ask him for any perfections, I only wait for him to laugh a little, to sigh, to let me feel him feeling. Is this weak? I don't care much. If that voice were yours, you would also be beyond reproach.
None of these writings is something to tremble through on its own. I had no compulsion to press the lines of the letters of the words into my skin. But they are alive and also ready to lay aside the living-of-it. I wished instead for the joyful detachment and the weeping honesty of observation it brought along. There is a slow peace inside of a shuddering breath and a clarity still marveling over itself, although it has been expecting it all these days.
The words that curl around the disintegrating self-portraits are the best of all of them. He sees his face, a hundred faces melting and withered -- the images of all the others are frozen into stillness. I guess we only accompany ourselves.
I admire it all, because he knows well it is not right, but he does what he can. Leonardos, I am no longer lonely.
if you are young and you don't hap- pen to be Arthur Rimbaud we would prefer not to hear from you
and if you do happen to be Arthur Rimbaud we definitely do not want to hear from you"
