About this title: For the Postsecret project, which was started in October 2004, Warren asked people to write a secret they had never told anyone on a handmade postcard and mail it to him. This compilation is astonishing in its honesty and creativity.

He began handing out postcards to strangers and leaving them in public places-asking people to write down a secret that had never told anyone and mail it to him anonymously. The response was overwhelming. The secrets were both provocative and profound, and the cards themselves were works of art-carefully and creatively constructed by hand. Addictively compelling, the cards reveal ... read more

"It's hard for me, when I read this book (or rather, looked at it) to believe that this was a project with a title and an author. Postsecret is a website dedicated to letting people in the world air their grievances without having the messy situation known as consequence, affect them; that was turned into a book. Flipping through the pages at first, I was more fascinated by the creative cards people had taken the time out to decorate than i was the secrets themselves. Until I started reading. Not only were there hilarious, common and normal confessions (I eat my own boogers was one of my personal favorites), but there were also tidbits of peoples lives that were not only capable of making the reader feel guilty, but could also summon nightmares about your own skeletons. I couldn't even bring myself to turn the page after some of the more shocking confessions (which you'll have to read to find out!) and it left me not only feeling like people feel the same things I do, but that everyone has flaws. I felt more connected to our species in a voyeuristic sort of way. This piece is really more art than anything else; but much more than that, it's a conceptual piece about life. Don't mistake this book for a coffee table flip-through, it may just help you want to post some secrets of your own."
"Throughout my entire high school career, I have been involved with the school's speech/debate team. My particular event has always been Impromptu Speaking, wherein I have had to analyze and interpret a vast variety of famous quotations and proverbs. This collection of published postcards was presented to me by my former event captain during my freshman year. His intentions were for the other Impromptu speakers and I to analyze the meanings of certain postcards and pages. As I read and studied each anonymous heartfelt confession or quip, I began to feel ill with wonder and disgust. Whether the postcard painted a portrait of incest or office humor or public urination or grief, each and every one contained a sense of rare pulchritude that only reality can hauntingly provide. These "PostSecrets" are not only therapeutic, but also artistic in their appearance and meaning. Since that one day of speech practice, I have stumbled upon few books with such an ability to collide the worlds of beauty and ugliness in order to create something radiant."
"Fascinating idea...in 2004, Frank Warren printed 3,000 blank postcards with his name and address and an invitation to decorate them and share a secret with him anonymously. He left them on park benches, in art galleries, at libraries, and elsewhere. And then the whole thing went viral, as they say in the virtual world. I understand that, to date, he has received over 400,000 postcards from people wanting or needing to share their secrets anonymously. This book is his first, and includes reproductions of about 275 of the postcards he has received. Others followed.
Some of the secrets are funny, many are heartbreaking, a few are scary or crude, and others are thought-provoking. Most are evidence that often what people fear most is that others will know us for who we really are, and life as we know it will end. So, we keep secrets, and it is often painful to bear their burden. I suppose that Warren hit a more or less universal need of people to get out from under the weight of the secrets they don't share. This book is the result."
"Psychotherapy for the price of a postage stamp. In 2004, Frank Warren got the idea of handing out blank postcards to strangers or leaving them out in public places asking anybody who wants to, to write down any secret they have never told anybody and mail it to him anonymously. From the response he received, he was able to compile several books and setup a very popular website. This volume had a foreword by therapist, Dr. Anne Fisher. When I was looking over the reviews of this book in GR, some people mentioned that some of them are lies. Probably, but a lot of them were repeated in several variations, so it remains to be proved or disproved. Some notes are as simple as wanting to be an outlaw biker while another one sent in a picture of himself driving a sports car saying he would trade it in for a bigger p.... Anybody who has gone beyond their teenage years will certainly recognize the insecurity poured out in those notes asking for acceptance for what they are, spelling out their insecurities. Or those adults who have missed reconciling with their lost parents: "..I would give my left arm just to have my mother alive to fight with." One secret writer summed it up "...it's OK to be scared and hurt, it's part of being human.""
