"David Austin is a rock star in the world of roses. I heart him.
And I heart the names of his English roses: Buttercup, Sweet Juliet, Cordelia, A Shropshire Lad, Othello, Perdita, Wise Portia, Wife of Bath, Evelyn. Sigh."
"Updated edition of Austin's book about his gorgeous roses. These roses make me want to plow up my whole yard and plant nothing but Graham Thomases, Eglantynes and Gertrude Jekylls!"
"Disclaimer - I'm kind of nuts about English Roses and gardening in general and therefore biased toward this book. I've spent hours poring over the rose descriptions. Here are the ones I'll have in my garden this summer: Eglantyne (pink), Crocus Rose (creamy-white), Litchfield Angel (creamy-white), Charles Rennie Mackintosh (lavender), The Countryman (rose pink - a little on the bright side for me). My selections are heavily influenced by my house decor, as I plan to cut lots of flowers to bring inside and want them to blend. I'm VERY excited for the new Munstead Wood (deep maroon) and Claire Austin (white) roses that were released in England this year and should be offered in the US in the fall 2009 catalogue."
