"Hey Everybody! I have an awesome-cool idea! Let's educate ourselves about Islam. Sound like a neato plan? Come on, then, let's get busy with our rad selves.
Where can we start? Well, there are dozens, maybe even hundreds, of books about Islam and the Qu'ran, written by people native to Muslim countries, fluent in classical and colloquial Arabic, educated on the religion's many complexities. There are just tons of accurate studies by Westerners and Easterners, Muslims and non-Muslims, believers and atheists. Some of the stuff was even written by an atheist Marxist named Maxime, who was a MAN. Can you believe it? A man named Maxime! Oh my God, pretty soon they'll legalize sodomy. It's not even hard to find these hundreds of books. They're all over the place.
Boo on them! That's no fun! We want the REAL story. The best book about Islam is probably written by a jackass non-Muslim who isn't fluent in Arabic and who writes for a pro-war fascist website like FrontPageMagazine.com. And we don't want one of those BOOOOOORING books published by a university press. We want one published by an unrefereed rightwing niche press notable for its virulent racism and chauvinism. Something like Regnery, a super-gnarly company which excites white supremacists so much that they get paper cuts on their penises. But they fight through it. 'Cause they're ultra-tuff!
There's really only one choice, isn't there? Robert Spencer! Yay! Not only is he unqualified to write about Islam, he hates Muslims, too. Boffo! This is just the book we're looking for."
"Informative book. I feel like I don't know enough about Islam to accurately judge it based on content, but at any rate, even if the view is biased, Spencer seems to have done his research and gives good background as to the claims he suggests Islam makes etc."
"This book is very insightful into the ways of Islam. I've read quite a bit on the subject and the concepts in this book are in agreement with everything else I've read. I believe what he teaches in the book. My difficulty with the book stems from what I percieved as an antagonistic attitude in the author. I believe what the author said, but I think he lost credibility by his tone. I read a book on the same subject a few months ago. Those authors said the same things but with a gentle humble style. This author would do well to tone down the hostility and just present the facts. His approach seemed personal, as in an 'ax to grind' way. He lost me in that approach."
"After reading Karen Armstrong's "The Battle for God" and "Islam: A Short History " I sought out a book on the other end of the spectrum. I am finding Spencer's statements to be more open, honest, and incisive than Armstrong's. Having now finished the book, I recommend it highly. It's very clear and well-researched. The author recommends numerous books "you're not supposed to read" according to the PC world."
