"To be fair, I'm not a fan of graphic novels. I was never a big reader of comic books when I was a kid, with the exception of Spider Man who was my hero, and this may be the third or fourth graphic novel I've read in my life.. I read this book because of a group challenge. It was a fast read but not an interesting one. I found the drawings murky at best and fekt it had a fairly conventional plot with shallow characters. But like I said, I'm probably not the right one to review this."
"i know i keep saying i won't read another graphic novel but this one practically jumped into my arms at the library today. i LOVE this movie so i decided to check out the original source.
i have to say that this is a great graphic novel. the art is unique and has this interesting combination of detailed and blurry mixed into one. there is plenty of gore and tons of blood so i was happy about that. these are some evil, fanged, killing machines!
its strange but i like the movie even more now that i read this. whoever wrote the screenplay really added some great extras to the story which propel Eben to make the ultimate sacrifice. i'm extra excited because at comic con they announced that the sequel has been greenlighted.
one more thing. the action words in the story are awesome! for example, when eban punches his fist through vicente's head the word "kaspulchh" is shown with showers of blood. some other good ones: slurrpk, spulch, spluchk and boofchk
oh and i never get tired of hearing a vampire say, "bite me.""
"Watched the movie and liked it; read the comic book and loved it. I instantly fell in love the art work of Ben Templesmith and was completely pulled in by Steve Niles' story. The pairing of Niles and Templesmith creates a wonderful paradox in this book, where Niles' gripping and suspenseful writing keeps you turning the pages and Templesmith's gritty and gory artwork keeps your eyes locked on each frame. This is a must read for horror fans, and I can't wait to tear into the rest of this series."
"I liked the artwork a lot, though as others have pointed out it was a little hard at times to tell who was doing what to whom. The art gave a great sense of isolation, biting cold and unavoidable, blood-drenched, toothy doom. The story idea was great and I'd like to see the movie. Given the shortness of the book, characters were pretty sketchy and basically just warm bodies trying to survive; you could feel for them, but there wasn't a lot there to get your teeth into. Heh. Sorry."
