"A stuttering, shy, red-headed heroine and a rake who puts the 'hell' in hellion...but of course she's level-headed and stubborn and he's secretly been getting bored with it all for ages, so they turn out to be a fabulous match. As someone who highly approves of the transition from publishing Regency romances (short, witty, virginal romance novels of Regency England) Regency historical romances (keep the wit and the romance, make it longer and lusty), I find Lisa Kleypas a rockstar of the new genre. She's a terrific storyteller who writes engaging characters, sharp witty dialogue and smokin' love scenes. ;) The was a very fun book."
"So, Sebastian receives a proposition from the weak, melting wallflower named Evangeline (or Evie) and reforms his womanizing ways in...only a few pages...
Evie is such a wimp. She melts, shivers, is conveniently weak, and irritated me to death. Someone is always helping her walk, putting her clothes on for her, letting her lean on them because she feels faint...and the list goes on and on. Her supposed shyness is nonexistent. Her stutter disappears immediately...I tried keeping track of how many times certain words were repeated - when she would melt, shiver, etc - and lost count. I couldn't see why Sebastian would like her, so there's a point for a second unbelievable event.
This book was not enjoyable, was filled with a rushed, annoying, unbelievable relationship, a whimpering heroine, little characterization, and some scenes that even contradicted one another. I also thought the conversations and love scenes were ridiculous. Sebastian's terms of endearments (ex: "pet" <--this one makes me shiver...with revulsion) were also really annoying. I've read and enjoyed some romance books before...this is definitely not one of them."
"Not sure where I heard about this one. I think I researching histori romances or something. Not sure about the title either and it's fit, maybe I guess. This was one surprised me in that Evangeline had a stamer when she spoke and I wasn't sure how that was going to play out but it was done well. Sebastian is suppose to be a bad boy kind of thing but didn't really get the history on that so it was really light in my opinion. Wasn't feeling this one but apparently I'm in the minority as the average rating is over four stars."
"This book was read completely out of order, I dunno how I did that but whatever. My interest in this genre has been waning, because frankly innocent virgins become uninteresting after a while, but this book was well-written so I'm adding it here for the time I want another one of these candy snacks of a a book and will remember an author worth looking out for, because I've read MANY UNLISTED books in the genre that were sooo bad. :) There are some pretty dubious character about-faces in this one, but whatever, the plot was engaging and I enjoyed it! TAKE THAT!"
