About this title: Four oddball political conspiracy theorists--the Camel Club of the title--get some actual grist for their paranoia in this near-future thriller by the bestselling author of HOUR GAME. As American actions abroad and at home spin out of control, the Camel Club searches for evidence, no matter how far-out, that would force leaders to take some responsibility for the desperate political situation. They unexpectedly stumble across such evidence when they witness the murder of a Secret Service agent, which proves to be only the smallest part of a conspiracy of epic proportions.

"I have read other Baldacci books and enjoyed his seminar at the South Carolina Book Festival a few years ago. This one was different and it took me a little time to get into it. I wasn't sure I really liked the main character Oliver Stone but I did like the Secret Service agent Alex so I kept reading. It is based on conspiracy theories and at times it seems far-fetched but I was intrigued and soon couldn't put it down. As the book ends you understand and like Stone and Baldacci sets it up for new stories for The Camel Club which I plan on reading."
"I happened to have this in unabridged audio and decided to listen to it as I drove around the VA countryside for way too many miles this month. Let me tell you, it was a fantastic read. Kind of interesting when I'd pass through some of the places mentioned in the book.
I love a good political intrigue story. Growing up in the greater DC area, I love to hear a good conspiracy theory and whatnot. This was definitely an interesting one. I liked the angle the author took where there was not so much a conspiracy as a lesson to be learned by not only America but by the whole world.
I recommend The Camel Club to anyone who likes a well written book. I'm so excited to learn there's a whole series here! I look forward to one day reading more."
"Awful. Hated 95% of the story, characters were not developed well, let alone new characters were still being added 50 pages from the end of the book. I didn't even care about the ones already present.
It seems that the author is trying way too hard to create a gripping, thrill-a-minute novel when in reality, the story is way too long and overtold. Many times while reading it, I felt like I was browsing wikipedia as many random facts were mentioned. I'm not sure if the author assumes his audience is dumb or that he is pretentious enough that he feels the need to explain everything. Was I to be impressed with the extensive knowledge presented. I could hardly keep up with the acronyms and oh, by the way, this happened too... storytelling. Other sections of the book feel as if one is reading a newspaper account of the events. Too many times, items are repeated by different characters. One can only assume that either the author wasn't aware or that pure word count was at play.
I've been told that his other books are better by several other people. I sure hope so as I picked up a few at a book sale. Hope my dollar wasn't wasted!"
"Most of my books reviews will have this disclaimer. Most of the books in my library are audiobooks. I prefer audiobooks especially on long trips. I feel that if the book is that bad at least my time was not a complete waste. With that said I can say the book was good, not great. I like David Baldacci's books because he spends alot of time developing the characters. If I don't like a book by the 2nd or 3rd disk I will put it away. I gave him a chance because I listen to The Christmas Train by David Baldacci every year for the last few years(one of my favorites.) I was lost for a good part of the book and had lots of questions which most were finally answered at the very end. There was alot of monologues about Islam which I did not care for. I kept saying I wish he would get to the point. My favorite character was Adelphia. She had a thick Euporean accent and very perceptive. This book will need another listen to pick up the details. I am still fussy about the good guys and bad. There was alot of action at the end and alot of unexpected twists. David sounded very believable about weapons and Government stuff."
