"It must have taken an indescribable amount of work to research this book: the amount of detail is almost overwhelming. But Nicolson does grand things with the data, making this most bloody and damaging of battles come alive. Not a book for everyone, there were times I had to insist to myself that I WOULD finish it. I'm glad I did."
"I never really connected with the book. Trafalgar is definitely in the deep background. What interested Nicolson was the detail: what was life like for a sailor? the Admiral? in the time? It worked more like a series of topical essays, but overall it lacked something."
