"Yes, this isn't really the death Superman deserves. And the last three issues are basically just a lot of punching, but nostalgia has to play a part in my review. This is the first series of comics I ever remember reading and the only one that I can remember my Dad reading so when I re-read these I looked at them through a six year old's eyes.
But just looking at this objectively? Pretty awful."
"A bit more DC exploring for me. I read parts of this before through various friends having some of these issues. And of course the event was big enough that most everyone who had an ear for comics heard about the necessary events in this. Heck, this even got covered on the news.
It is funny just how big this event was even though in the long run it didn't seem to effect the title character, just introduce some new characters. I am not the biggest Supes fan. Though I am beginning to realize there is more potential in the property than I used to give it credit for. Either way, I still felt a read of this would be fun and insightful.
Overall, the piece is an action fest, that should have spent a hair more time getting the audience behind Superman. Just a little bit of character work, please. Course that is more obvious when you are reading this alone as opposed to in the midst of its continuity.
I still had some fun with the book. It is not a piece of literary art, it is pop comics at its biggest. The final issue, where each page is a splash page to make you realize how big the event in the issue really is, was half-way to working. You either felt that something huge was coming or the artist and writer were getting lazy. I thing something like that has to have absolutely perfect pacing and scripting and the issue did not.
I was happy with the very small amount of narrative boxes. Unfortunately they reared their head right at the end.
The art is mostly decent comic fluff art of the 90's. It is fun to see Bogdonove after his terrible experimenting on X-tinction Agenda going back to a more palatable style.
The whole story should have been much more, but mostly it was an excuse to sell more comics than they deserved to sell, and continue to do so as everyone knew he'd eventually come back. I should probably rate it 1 star for this, but I can't help but say I had a little fun with it."
"this book was a really great book because the author just makes you think that superman will come to and end and the action this book has is incredible no argue best book i reccomend it"
"I was THRILLED when Superman died and he died rather epically. I can't give this book though a full five stars considering I wasn't thrilled with how it ended...that made me mad. Anyway....it is a GREAT graphic novel for superman and non-superman fans alike."
