"The book that I read was Heat. It was about how Michael Arroyo an amazing twelve year old baseball player who has a secret that can't be let out or else he won't be allowed to play anymore. All of the rival coaches think he is too good to be twelve and he can't prove he is twelve because his birth certificate is back in Cuba. My impression of this book is that it was exciting and interesting it never left you bored it left you wanting more. I don't think this book could have been any better, this was one of my favorite books of all time. What I learned from this book is that you should never listen to all the things people say and to defy the odds and make them eat their words. This book reminds me of the book The Big Field also by Mike Lupica. This reminds me of it because this book was also about baseball and how the main character Hutch came up big their final games of the playoffs to get them to the chamionship. I would recommend this book to my friend Anthony because he also came up big for our baseball team in our playoffs."
"Michael Arroyo has a mean pitching arm. It's an arm that he's hoping will send him to the Little League World Series, but it's an arm that can bring unwanted attention. Attention to the fact that his father has recently passed away, and the only family Michael has left is his teenage brother, Carlos. When another Little League coach doesn't believe that such a great pitcher is young enough to be playing, Michael is asked to provide a birth certificate, drawing more attention to the fact that no one has seen Michael's father in a few months.
This was not a book I'd usually read on my own, and although I can see why this is a popular book choice with guys, it didn't really do it for me, and I skimmed a few chapters to try to get to the end faster."
Heat was a really fun book to read and I relly enjoyed it because it was about baseball, rising against all the odds, tackling life's problems, and doing what you were born to do.
I give most of the credit of this great book to Mike Lupica's unique writing style. Unlike other sports who like to give all this background information and create a long introduction to the story, Mike Lupica gets right to the middle of the story and gradually gives facts about the protagonist as the story continues.
The story mainly about Michael Arryo, a cuban immigrant living in the Bronx with incredible pitching talent and a strong heart. Right from the beginning you can tell Michael's had a hard life because his mother died of cancer, his father died of a heart attack, and the government is on the hunt to put both Michael and his brother in a foster home. Michael's goal is also clear from the beginning: Win a little league world series and join the NY Yankees.
I relate to Michael because I also grew up in NYC watching baseball and I've been playing it most of my life. After reding this book, it made me realize that nothing is impossible and you can always do something if you put your mind to it."
"Heat, by: Mike Lupica, was a really good and thrilling book, Heat is mainly about a boy name Michael Arroyo, he grew up in New York, but was born in Cuba like the rest of his family. Living near Yankee Stadium, his father dreamed of his son playing in the little league world series that would be in Yankee Stadium. But neither his mother nor father were able to see this happen, his mother died of cancer when Michael was at a really young age, and his father died of a heart attack later on in life. Michael was from Cuba, and was sent with his older brother Carlos, who is only months away from being 18, and then he can be a legal guardian of Michael, but until that time they had to keep it a secret, Michael loved his brother and didn't want to be separated from him. Michael could throw an easy 80 mile an hour fast ball on his little league team, but without a birth certificate from the U.S., and no proof of citizenship, and a snotty coach and his spoiled son from the rival team trying to get Michael kicked out because of no birth certificate, Michael will have to fight his way to play the sport that he loves. But I'm not going to give away the ending, trust me; this book will keep you hanging, although it starts off slow at the beginning, this book shows the love of a kid and sport that will never end, it shows courage and hope from a kid who's chances of ever being in the little league world series being slim to none. I chose this book because I love sports, although I love football more than baseball, this book made me think a little bit more about baseball, and how passionate this sport really is. I knew that this book would be great, and you will find it that way too. Heat is a great baseball book and since baseball is my second most favorite sport. Hope you enjoy Heat."
