"i assumed this was going to be along the lines of the Sands Argeneau series. even the premise was the same. vamp meets human who resists mind control. fleeing from danger commences. they fall in love. all with a healthy dose of humor. this book tried really hard to do all of that but fell short. maybe it was because i was comparing it to something else, a series i love?
there were a few funny spots i the beginning of the book then it all went flat. the characters kept having dialog with themselves out loud which was also irking me. the writing was not only amateur but also repetitive. there is a "God's blood" count to rival twilight's "dazzle". i kind of wanted ot throw the book on several occasions. it would have also been nice to just skip the sex scenes. the were so poorly done it would have been better not to have them at all. how often do you hear me wishing for less sex?? seriously.
i dont know about the rest of the series. maybe if i were desperate."
"God's Blood! What a premise and what a disappointment.
First the good: the book's premise was indeed different - an on the run dentist with an aversion to blood, a 500 year old vampire who works to help both humanity and vampires through medicine, highlanders in kilts(!!!), and lots of family drama/vampire coven drama.
The bad: The main vamp character uses the phrase God's Blood every other sentence. Every time I came across the phrase it immediately pulled me out of the book and made me think of the "Back to the Future" movies where Doc Brown ran around like a chicken with his head cut off yelling, "Great Scott!" It got old - real fast.
There is a great build up of the love story of the main characters but the whole thing is supposedly wrapped up in less than a page and a half? The relationship between our blood phobic dentist and our main vamp was also built up very quickly and I didn't feel the two characters really had a chance to connect to each other or discover if they had anything in common.
Also, I really found myself not giving two hoots about the bad guys and wished more time would have been spent on the dentist's family issues (probably the focus of book 2) or on showing the characters interact with each other over a longer period of time.
Overall it's a decent read but I'll borrow the rest of the series when I get around to it instead of seeking the books out (or buying them)."
"A dentist wanted by the Russian Mafia gets kidnapped by a very rich man, who has a tooth problem. This creator of an amazing life saving synthetic blood lost his fang trying to bite into a simulated human. Okay so he's a vampire, nobody's perfect. Roman Draganesti created synthetic blood so vampires could sip from a bottle rather than the source. His infusion cuisine is coming along wonderfully; Chocoblood is a favorite among female vampires. But I digress, upon finding that his dentist, Shanna Whelan, is in trouble Roman takes her back to his penthouse and proceeds to turn his life upside down to accommodate her. The first in a very funny vampire series, well worth reading."
"I think this may be one of my favorite books from the Love at Stake series. I loved how Shanna had issues and wasn't accepting right away of Roman and I loved how Roman didn't give up. Roman was brooding, but it wasn't over the top as some books I've read where you want to say "Just get over yourself already." The silver thing at the end sort of threw me. I'm guessing it's just the cross he's not allergic to now. Otherwise he'd be quite a force. Overall, the book was funny and a great fix for my romance craving. Loved it."
