About this title: This is an imaginative alternate history in which a cadre of magicians rules 1868 London. Fourteen-year-old Nathaniel is the youngest member of the Office of Internal Affairs and must cope with the Resistance, a band of commoners attempting to overthrow the intimidating magicians. When a clay golem attacks the British Museum, Nathaniel must travel to Prague to learn its background. The wittily sardonic genie Bartimaeus assists him, and narrates some of the chapters. A young Resistance fighter named Kitty accompanies Nathaniel in this adventure featuring a dancing skeleton and the fearsome ...

"Picks from where the Amulet let off...dusts itself and starts running again in the same speed. This is what came to my mind when i was reading this novel. Bartimaeus,Nathaniel and the new entrant kitty are at their sparkling best in the tale.
The wise cracking djinni is a wonderful breath of fresh air in the tale. The parts of the novel as seen from his perspective are the ones that i enjoyed the most. Nathaniel's character moves from a moral and humane one to the cattle herd of power hungry magicians of the society in the tale. Kitty is defiance personified and as Bartimaeus says " I quite enjoyed the conversations " from her end.
However, some parts of the tale are flattened and it seems to drag a bit but still the pace picks up a few pages down. All the more reasons to look forward to Ptolemy's gate...."
"It has been two years since Nathaniel and Bartimaeus foiled Lovelace's plot against the government, and Bartimaeus thought they had a deal, never to work together again. Nathaniel is now a government worker, in charge of stopping the Resistance-a group of commoners, seemingly led by a young woman named Kitty, who are tired of the magician's running everything, and treating the commoners like dirt-and there have been a spate of attacks on the government, some of which may not be the doing of the Resistance. So Nathaniel needs the help of the best djinni he knows, and he must summon Bartimaeus again. With a little bargaining, and a little threatening, he convinces Bartimaeus to work for him again, but when Bartimaeus learns that the attacks are probably being caused by a Golem-a magical being which is impervious to the magic of spirits like Bartimaeus-Nathaniel realizes he may have gotten in further than he can handle. Meanwhile, Kitty and the Resistance are planning one all-or-nothing blow to the government-a raid of the tomb of the most powerful magician in England's history. But their only way in is with the help of a somewhat shadowy figure who may not have their best interests at heart. As Kitty, Nathaniel, and Bartimaeus's paths all cross, the fate of the government of magicians once again hangs in the balance."
"The second installment in the Bartimaeus trilogy takes a darker turn as the seedy side of the magician's world is revealed. Humans without magical powers are treated like garbage and basically have no rights. A young woman named Kitty, who is resistant to magic, joins forces with others of her kind to attempt to cause a little ruckus in the magical world. At the same time, a series of mysterious thefts and vandalism are occurring. Are they related or a mere coincidence. The young magician from book one calls on Bartimaeus once again to help investigate. While often funny, the book is less enjoyable and more frustrating than its predecessor."
