"Another good "journal" written, I mean edited, by Beatrice Sparks. The voice sounded very similar to Go Ask Alice with the younger, immature, pie-in-the-sky girl who gets knocked down to reality after something brutal happens to her.
Nancy contracts AIDS after being raped by the man she's in love with...yes a man while she's only a girl. It's a very sad story and something I'm sure happens more than reported, proof that you can never be sure of anything and can only trust yourself.
If you liked the writing style of Go Ask Alice and Jay's Journal than I'm sure you will like this book. Let's stop fooling ourselves by thinking these journals were merely edited by author: Beatrice Sparks."
"This book is great Nancy is a 14 year old girl who is Catholic and just by meeting one guy had changed her whole life forever. Nancy meet a guy named Colin who help her when she got lost in a concert with her friend and Aunt He was was 18 years old. After that day they both became more and more closer to each other they call each other brothers and sisters. He told her that he in collage, So one day She invited Colin to her house when she was home alone. Both of them were at her house drinking and eating, So the next thing that happen was that Colin took Nancy up stairs to her mom room. When he Started to kiss Nancy on her mom bed she told him to stop and he just looked at her and said "Don't you love me"? she said "yea but.." , then Colin kept going and he raped her. After he was done with her he didn't look back and just left. After that day Nancy found out that he was never in collage because she called and they don't have him there also he lied that he wasn't 18. Nancy was fool by Some guy she though she knew but end up a lie . Nancy felt kinda sick after like 2 weeks then she went to the doctor and found out she had HIV. After she found out it change her whole life , She change was a person but at the end she made a huge difference.
In my opinion I really love this book it show anyone would have HIV even if you think it could never happen to you. It also show how you should be careful with who you meet and trust even if you think you really know them. This story show something that happen now and still keep going around the world. I would say this book is kind like "SOlD" because the Two main character of the book have lost there virginity by force. I would recommend it to people that want to read about how a girl can suffer so much bye having sex"
"The true story of a 14 year old (within weeks of being 15) thrown into "love" with a college boy who deceives her into vulnerability, rapes her, then promptly leaves her--with HIV, which quickly proceeds into AIDS. Her growth emotionally as she faces her disease and tries to have a "normal" life comes through her diary, allowing teen readers to identify with her in the two+ years this book chronicles to her death. The book is positive, but there ARE sexual references, obviously. Parents need to read this before giving it to their child. I would rate it PG13 only for the sexual questions she has to ask herself, after the rape in regards to her "good" boyfriend, and in consequences of the rape. The editor has treated all of the sexual material quite sensitively, but still it requires a fairly mature reader."
"I'm glad I read this book, I learned a lot from it. I encourage other teenage girls to read it because of it's extremely strong message that very well could help them out some day. After the message, my 2nd favorite thing about the book was that it never got boring, I couldn't put it down.
But the reason I gave it 3 stars and not 4 is because the ending was so terrible. I realise this was a real persons diary, and in real life people don't have the most interesting, thought out, happy endings. But it was one of the most depressing, bland endings I've ever read.
Overall, I liked this book and i'm glad I read it."
