About this title: An ex-Navy SEAL and retired U.S. government agent sets himself against his former employer in this nuanced post-9/11 thriller. Years ago, Arab-American Salam "Fade" Al Fayad suffered a potentially crippling gunshot wound while working for the U.S. government, and the government declined to pay for surgery. So when Hillel Strand, head of a covert branch of Homeland Security, tries to recruit Fade for a vital Middle East mission, he declines in kind. Unfortunately, Strand is determined to secure Fade's acceptance at any cost, and the situation quickly explodes into violence.

"About two-thirds of the way through the Fade character changed -- enough that I thought the writer's agent or editor said, "If we want to have this picked up by a movie studio as a screenplay, we need to model Fade to be more like Vin Diesel..."
The relentless bad luck and unhappy events in Fade's life make it almost a relief when the character finds release (i.e., dies) at the end of the book. The female S.W.A.T. team police officer is left hanging -- a character the author may want to write more about at a later date? The women characters intrigued me -- but were relegated to the background, for the most part.
It was as though the author had lots of meaty material, but couldn't decide what direction to pursue (serial killer of blonde women? Jack Ryan-esque character with Rocker wife? doomed love story?)"
"Fade is a guy who worked in the military and always did the right thing only to be injured and have the government turn their back on him. Years later the government comes to solicite his help and he decides to get his revenge."
