About this title: The author of IMPERIAL HUBRIS is a senior officer with the CIA, and the book had to be submitted to the company for vetting prior to publication. Surprisingly to many, the CIA approved the manuscript, with the proviso that the author not use his real name, even though his identity is known. IMPERIAL HUBRIS is a highly critical assessment of the intelligence community and of the war on terror waged in the Clinton and Bush years. The author, who was chief of the Osama bin Laden station under President Clinton, is faults the two administrations for not responding to the terror threat and, when ...

"Scheuer is a strange fellow, I think, but he knows his business (Osama bin Laden) quite well. Far better than the decision makers in the Bush administration. A coldly realistic but rather too masculinist take on the war on terror."
"Despite whether or not I agree with this book, the writing was a bit too emotionally charged for me to take it at face value. Thankfully in the new epilogue the author explains his background for the sake of full disclosure, and I can understand why it's hard to separate his personal experiences in the CIA from his analysis of the ineptitude of the Bush administration. That aside, I still wasn't satisfied by the book because every chapter seems to reword the previous chapter. This puppy could have been a nice slim 75 pager with large print- cut out the extra verbage and get to that point. That said, it's a must read for current events, and as an American it infuriated me and made me want to see heads roll... in the political sense, of course. Enjoy!"
"Being the head of the Bin Ladin Task Force in the CIA, Michael Scheuer's assessment that terrorism has it roots, not in radical religious ideology, but political grievances, many of which are legitimate concerns, the contents and message of this book cannot be dismissed as the ranting of the "radical Left". If you come across anyone thinks the "War on Terror" is about a clash between Islam and Democracy, leave this at their doorstep."
