"I guess you could call this a sequel to the wonderful Trances People Live. This book expands on the notion that thoughts and feelings have substance, that they are physical entities. Thus, we can elicit an emotion, then detach ourselves from the idea that triggered the emotion, and work with the emotion itself. Emotion, he tells us, has weight (though an infinitesimal amount) and occupies space. He spells it E-motion to emphasize his point.
For example, thinking of Limburger cheese brings ickiness to mind. I can focus on the icky sensation and forget about the cheese. I can work with the ickiness in various ways that Dr. Wolinsky explains, and the desired result is that I come to control the sensation of ickiness rather than it controlling me.
Extend this exercise to fear, lust, hatred, etc. and you've really got something.
This book is an extension of his earlier work. It's a bit longer than it needs to be due to some repetitiveness, and it's a little more "out there" conceptually. Still, it's worth a read."
