Hemingway was primarily a journalist and in that field he honed his skills as an observer and reporter.
In the days when copy was conveyed via cable and telegraph for which the sender/ receiver was charged by the word he learned to eliminate the frills and flowers from his prose and this became the essential element of his narrative style for which he is praised. He covered the who, what, when and where and conveyed both pathos and drama effectively in damn few words. So you'll find his reports clear, concise, brief and affecting.
I would strongly recommend this book to students of writing, journalism and history.
