"I had to sample this series when I realized that 1) it is published by the same folks who do Madonna's books (eek!) and 2) this is apparently an extremely popular series. I thought it was okay, though I can certainly see it's appeal. Very bright illustrations, really fun and animated-feeling and, rhyming text and, well, it is about BUGS! Some children may be bothered by the fact that Little Miss Spider's mother is never found (did she die?!? not want her babies?!?) but the message is meant to be one of reassurance as Miss Spider learns that her true mother is the creature who loves and cares for her: "For finding your mother, there's one certain test. You must look for the creature that loves you the best." As I said, it's a very popular book but I would just exercise caution especially if your child is sensitive to "lost mommy" situations or adoption themes."
"surprisingly simple, beautiful story about family. sometimes family doesn't turn out like you thought it would. but if a person loves you truly, nothing matters but accepting that love. this is your family. happiness will follow."
