Description: As New. Jacket as new. From the book jacket: Just three days after her wedding to Sheriff Paul Davidson, Anna Pigeon moves from Mississippi to Colorado to assume her new post as district ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park, where three girls have disappeared during a religious retreat. Two of the children reappear a month later, clad only in filthy underwear and claiming to remember nothing of the intervening weeks....As Ann investigates, she finds herself caught up in the machinations of a ... read more
"This is a nail-biter of a thriller that is NOT for the faint of heart... the story of missing children, a polygamist cult, and a warped individual who creates horror at Rocky Mtn National Park has a couple of graphic deaths - but moreover has some freaky twists that will leave some folks VERY uncomfortable.
OTOH, if you like thriller novels and/or Nevada Barr's Anna Pidgeon mysteries, this is good stuff. This time around, there are two converging stories that give us a bigger picture... and more suspects. This is one of those "can't put the book down" kind of novels - I started last night & finished it this afternoon while I watched over the boys."
"This may be the darkest Anna Pigeon story yet. The story takes place in Rocky Mountain National Park and toggles back and forth between the points of view of Anna and Heath Jarrod, a paraplegic woman who resents Anna. The themes of the book include kidnapping, child abuse, and religious cults. What is Anna getting herself into now?"
"I enjoyed getting to know Anna Pigeon during her first weeks on a new assignment as park ranger. Barr beautifully details the Rocky Mountain National Park as the mystery involving a paranoid religious sect unfolds... very quick read!"
"Love mysteries, and love the framework of the National Park ranger working at all the different parks. This book, however, was a bit much for me. Very evil criminal and utterly depraved crimes written with too much description. Plus, not a great view of Christian homeschoolers (well, in this book they were a cult, not true Christians)."
