"What a great read this was! A no-brainer, with tons of side splitting humor. Also helps a little if you are suffering with any level of mommy or wife guilt :)"
"I think she has some good points, but I can't get past the condescension in her attitude that if you professionalize motherhood, somehow you are trying too hard. I get that it would be much easier to put chicken pot pies (frozen, not homemade) on the table every night, but I just don't really want to do that (although there are times that this particular dinner happens in my household). I like being a mother and wife, and I like that I'm trying my darndest to do both well. Her points are well taken that we shouldn't make ourselves crazy doing it, but I think the key isn't one extreme or another - more of a balance issue.
"Summary Mead-Ferro examines the unreasonable expectations women place upon themselves and how society and human nature work to perpetrate these double standards. Topics include: cleaning, aging, entertaining, sex and friendships. Review This book had a lot of good points, but it wasn't as humorous as I was expecting. I like the fact that the author didn't place all the blame on society and maintained that we as women need to be more proactive in making our own choices and standing by them. The quality of the chapters were hit and miss, with the sections of cleaning and aging being the best, in my opinion. I also get the distinct impression that Mead-Ferro lives a very privileged life with a very understanding and modern-thinking husband. While this is wonderful for her, I kept finding myself wondering how her theories would sound to a lower-class woman or a woman whose husband was not as empathetic and/or forward thinking.
"She's funny and while I don't agree with everything she had to say, much of what she says is a break-through for her and just common sense for me. Anyhow, it was a fun, quick read and that's about it."
