"Kaiser Wilhelm II was a complex character, and this short biography is possibly just a little bit too short, with six of its eight chapters dealing with the period prior to the outbreak of World War I. The war itself and Wilhelm’s abdication occupy a mere 25 pages, and the years in exile, likewise, receive only very brief coverage. There is also a marked Anglo-German focus – rather more detailed information about the Kaiser’s rapport with other countries (the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Russia being two examples) would have been welcome. Despite these reservations, the book is nevertheless a worthwhile read, and it provides a neat and concise overview of Wilhelm and other members of his family."
