"Odden describes concepts very simply and clearly. However, there is no chapter on syllable structure, and IPA is not used. APA (American Phonetic Alphabet) is generally used, but very often the same symbol (for example, [r]) represents different articulations from problem to problem, and the font (something like Arial) is imprecise and sometimes confusing. There is a section comparing IPA and APA, which is helpful, but it would be better if APA were not used at all, or if the font in examples and problems made letters more distinct, or if at the very least one symbol always represented exactly one articulation."
