"A giant 'meh' from me. The whole 'snowed in' device is a guilty pleasure of mine, so I was trying to go with it but...meh. I quite liked Frances, and would have liked here more had I not been so frustrated by her deep dark secret that I didn't learn about until the very end, when it was waved aside (as it should have been)--would have connected a bit more to her had I been given an inkling of it. Lucius I didn't like at all. Sure, he cares about his family, but he's a complete jerk otherwise, throwing his weight around and generally being completely self-centered. I don't wonder that Frances was pretty blunt about refusing him, and I was actually annoyed at how little he listened to her. Also, and this is a personal quirk of mine, so ymmv, if she MUST have the voice of a delightful angel, well and good, but I don't particularly need to know WHAT she's singing, unless it actually pertains to the plot. I don't need to know the lyrics, either, unless ditto, which they don't. Liked the grandfather and Amy, and didn't hate Portia as much as I was supposed to--I hope she's happier with her duke than she would have been with Lucius."
"Mary Balogh writes some graceful romances and this is one has a good deal of humor in the spirited exchanges between a talented but vulnerable heroine and her impulsive lover who will not take no for an answer."
"I wanted to give it a higher rating. I was somewhat frustrated with Frances and her continuous refusals and goodbyes. Some might have found Lucious's persistence as a nusiance, I thought it was quite endearing. He was head over heels in love with her from the first moment and he never gave up. The beginning was great as was the ending especially the proposal. I can't wait to get to the next book in this series."
"I haven't read romance in a while... I didn't expect much. After all, most of these books follw a recipe. But I was pleasantly surprise. Yes, it might not be very realistic or thought provoking, but it's a fun read and I really liked the main character."
