About this title: If youth is wasted on the young, so is good financial advice. Money expert Suze Orman targets an important audience, the generation in their 20s and 30s, tailoring her advice to their situations: enormous debt, big expenses, little left over for saving. Money management is a critical need for them, as they begin a long journey into an uncertain but perilous future. Orman provides a good foundation, with advice about credit cards, college loans, and income, as well as the new opportunities not available to generations before them--such as 401ks, IRAs, and more opportunities to make decisions ...

"Suze Orman provides an excellent overview of all aspects financial life for young people in their 20s and 30s. It's very easy to read, fun, witty, and verrrry informational. I learned all about credit scores, the difference between savings and investing, 401Ks, stocks, buying a car (don't lease! buy!), buying a home, and discussing finances with your life partner. I think the advice is solid and routed in common sense. A must-read for anyone who is just starting out on a career path and who cares about their finances (which is, admittedly, everyone)."
"This is an okay book. It turns out I'm not an idiot, so a lot of the advice is common sense and things I either already knew, or even better, had already done. For context, I'm a 24 year-old graduate with a full time job w/ benefits (insurance + 401k) - I'm paying my school loan, car loan, and a mortgage.
There is some great, practical advice in here - especially if you're more on the broke side of young, fab & broke.
She really, really, likes to hawk FICO and how important it is to know your FICO score etc. etc. Not coincidentally, she has many products you can buy to help you with that!
I'd recommend borrowing this book rather than buying it."
"Suze Orman, despite whatever shady past and connections she's had, knows how to give great financial advice. I consider myself above-average in financial knowledge, thanks to three business peeps in the family. But this is a GREAT resource for day-to-day financial questions: which bill should I pay first? what are good reasons to spend money? what is the smartest method of saving? Answers abound!
Can't recommend it enough for everyone who has money or doesn't have money. This is on my list of books to buy, it's going to be a great resource."
"I like Suze Orman's conversational writing style, and I also found it helpful that the book was broken out into sections, so I didn't need to read the parts that didn't apply (see: buying a car, as if I need one in NYC). There's certainly a lot of good and useful information about credit, paying off debt, and investing.
That being said, the book totally harps on how you should be investing in a 401(k) NO MATTER WHAT. While on the one hand, I understand that sentiment and know the math as to why it makes sense, on the other, I don't think it makes sense to say, "Don't budget, it's okay to use your credit cards for necessities, but make sure you are saving for retirement." That doesn't add up to me. (Also, I have my own personal stuff regarding retirement money and building equity, because I think there is a lot to be said for enjoying the life you've got and not just saving to do fun things "someday." That's probably the part of me that wants to fight my parents talking.)"
