"I listened to the audio version of this. I thought the plot was boring and the dialog annoying. Wanted to quit several times (but had nothing better to do on long car rides), and although I didn't, I know I wouldn't have missed any enjoyment if I had. Not at all a "page turner" to me. Although I liked Spencer's witty, terse dialog in other Spencer books, in this one it was mostly predictable or uninteresting. The constant "He said", and "I said" was irritating. I'd recommend passing on this one. There are so many better books to read that this one is not worth the time."

"I liked Cold Service by Robert Parker because of the bonding that took place between Spenser and Hawk, and the understanding that Susan has. I thought it was unique, but nice, when Susan, Cecile, Hawk and Spenser were sitting around, with Susan and Spenser trying to convince Cecile that Hawk still loved her, but with the line of work they had, it was difficult to express at the moment. I also liked the sense of payback in the book. It felt like Spenser owed it to Hawk to help him get revenge, becuase not so long ago, Hawk helped Spenser get back at The Gray Man. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading mysteries or detective-like storie."
