"I don't remember much of the story, but I was attracted to the vibrant illustrations of the book. However, I couldn't force myself to connect with them, no matter how prismatic or lovely they seemed. The way Celia Cruz was drawn sort of reminded me of a smiling Sambo and I didn't really warm up to that. It is certainly lively, but who knows what other stereotypes of those sharing the race of Ms. Cruz are embedded in this book. I'd choose another book to learn about this great woman, but not this one. It is much too iffy."
