"Washington Irving has a style that is very similar to C.S. Lewis. While he uses a wide variety of vocabulary his writing is very easy to read. I was also very surprised because I was not aware that he, as well, wrote Rip van Winkle. I mainly bought this book to ready Sleepy Hollow (which I loved!)and surprisingly Disney got majority of it correct in their animated short (while the Time Burton movie was nowhere close)! The stories are simple but thought provoking. Each story starts with a little poem or limerick that jump starts you. I could not put down this book at all!"
"if you don't like 19th century writing it may not be ur cup of tea but most the stories have a subtle "spooky" factor. a very good read. a true classic."
"And there is always a mishap with a woman to blame! I had forgotten that part! It was good to re-read this story that I read once upon a time- in high school. How is it I forgot all of the details and only remembered the witching hour ride over a bridge and the discovery of a pumpkinhead, a saddle and a lone horse at a farmers house????"
""The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", "Rip Van Winkle", and "The Author's Account of Himself " were my favorites. Some of the essays were interesting reads as well. Wish "Rip Van Winkle" were longer, really got into the story."
