"what do you do when the bride backs out 5 days before the wedding-carry on without the bride of course. Franz and his family and friends party harty. After the party he gets another dissappointment-his job is downsized-what to do-take your brother and go on the honeymoon to Costa Rica. Even though they haven't spent a lot of time together they enjoy the trip and decide to visit the other places they have friends or just want to see. their treks take them to Europe, Asia, south America and Africa with little trips back to the California. It was fun to read about the places they visited and their differences as they came closer together. I got tired of Franz talking about his political job. I did like how they kept in touch with their Grandma through their letters and postcards. She became an attraction at the community where she lived with tales of their exploits."
"Very disappointed with this book. It lacked a strong story line, and I fell asleep every time I started reading it. I got through more than half of it when I realized that I didn't want to waste my time anymore. I may have liked it more if I were closer in age to the author, so that I may have understood the pop culture references that he made. If I were interested in traveling to over 50 counties in a couple of years, maybe I would have been more intrigued by the quick stories that occurred in each city. Instead, I felt a total disconnect with the author and felt like he was writing uninteresting snippets in a journal rather than telling a comprehensive story. The only part that was remotely interesting was the random girl he hooked up with and ditched, but even that only lasted a few pages. I wanted to hear about relationships, people, and experiences. Instead, I got boring, boring, and more boring."
"This book was, at times, entertaining (so entertaining that I sometimes questioned his validity). But mostly I found it annoying. Or, I should say, I found the author annoying. If I had to hear about one more "tanned, long-legged, silky-skinned" woman he hooked up with in his sojourns around the world, I was going to stick my finger down my throat! It also bothered me how snobby he became as he traveled for 2 years. He, and only he, knew the right, the authentic way, to travel. He and his brother continually made fun of the rest of the tourists. Uh, Franz, not everyone can just drop everything and go off trekking around the world like you did. Some of us can only spend a few days in a location because we have families, jobs, and a limited budget. That does not make you a superior traveler. You do, however, have connections that enabled you to get your self-indulgent book published. And, oh no...there's another one coming!"
