"Have to say that I can't join in with the praise heaped on Honeymoon on James Patterson and Howard Roughan's websites. I will agree that it is a fast read - but then, the chapters are so brief that there is a lot of blank page in that book. I had real trouble with the "suspension of disbelief" bit however.
Writers must want us readers to believe what they write, but:
1. I believe that if the FBI came across a person removing 4.3 million dollars from a recently suddenly deceased person's account, the person suspected of removing said money would be dragged into FBI offices, and the computer suspected of making said transfer would be confiscated and taken apart to see if the transaction was made from it. The elaborate way the FBI behave in this book is lip curlingly ridiculous. 2. No-one has 4.3 million sitting in a bank account. You don't get to have 4.3 million by being that financially naïve. If you have 4.3 million it would be invested. One person having such a large amount of money in a bank account is bad enough - but two wealthy men acting this way? Please. 3. The sex scenes - oh my God, the sex in the book is straight out of a bad porn film. Extract it and show it to people, and they would know the authors' sex straight away. 4. The mother's actions are complete rubbish. "Why would she do that?" my constant thought. There is parole from jail - not so from a lunatic asylum. 5. The sister? Why would she do that? In all her snooping, she discovered nothing."
"This book kept me interested from the first page and keeps me interested till the end. This book is the book that got me hook on James Patterson's books and now i own almost all his books. This is my favorite James Patterson book and i've pasted in on to others and they all loved it too. the suspence is just so amazing that i didnt want to put the book down. I recommend this book to everyone, it's a real easy read and I think everyone will enjoy it. The main character Nora Sinclair is a woman who is interested in rich men who have alot of money. The way she seduces these men and what she does after she is threw with them keeps you coming back for more, but a detective is on to her but his feelings kind of get in his way."
"This was my first Patterson but I wrote my review of the The Quickie first so that's where all my Patterson comments are. I picked this book because it was the 2005 International Thriller of the Year and also a best seller for Patterson. I liked The Quickie better. Again, really hard to explain but I just don't like any of his characters, even the good guys. The story is great. Totally got the thriller part of this but to me it's just not rounded out or something. I can't quite put my finger on it. But hey, who am I to say. It was a best seller and he's had several of his books turned into movies (both of which I've seen and love) so who knows!
In this story we have a female serial killer, a undercover FBI agent and some other odds and ends going on. Just like The Quickie it seems pretty open and close and then it just goes crazy with twists so I loved that part. I just couldn't like any of the characters so that's a hard sale for me."
