"When I need to remember who was president when, and what happened during their reign, or what they looked like, my brain automatically recalls the tableaux from this book. It's borderline eerie."
"I loved this book when I was a kid, and I found it when I was unpacking books that have been stored in my aunt's attic since I moved to New York. It's still pretty great - an illustrated rhyming guide to the presidents of the United States (goes through George Bush Sr, who was president when I got it as a birthday present when I was ten, I think.) I realized that most of what I've read and learned about US History since I was ten has been hung on the imaginative pegs that this book provided. Megan and I tried to come up with couplets for Bill Clinton and George W. that fit this book's style: "Billy Clinton, forty-two/which of your interns DIDN'T you do?" and "Georgie Junior, forty-three/can you spell 'incompetency'?""
"I picked this up in hardcover at the SPL book sale, just because it was illustrated by Alice Provensen - I really just adore her style. It's an illustrated rhyming guide to remembering the names and deeds of the U.S. presidents up until George Bush, Sr. And I just really like it."
