Are nation-states being transformed by globalisation into a single globalised economy? Do global cultural forces herald a postnational millennium? Tying ethnography to structural analysis, "Flexible Citizenship" explores such questions with a ...

"I recently read this book for the second time and liked it even less then I did the first time round. I think Ong always has great ideas for books but then her execution of the research and the writing always disappoint. She spends the entire intro going on and on about how much anthropology has to offer to study of transnationalism and then proceeds to do NO anthropological research to substantiate any of her claims. A lot of the things she says about elite immigrants and Chinese transnational business feel in my gut like they might be true but her book does nothing to provide the back up for these claims. Don't be fooled by the very cool title or the very strong intro this book is not as good as it could or should be."
