"I thought I would try the New Living Translation just to infuse a bit of freshness into my devotional life. No freshness here, just short, choppy sentences which lack beauty and grandeur. Give me a NKJV, a KJV, a NASB, or an ESV any day over this translation. Maybe if I were a poor reader, this one would work. Temporarily. I can't imagine staying in it for a whole year.
The One Year Bible is available in other translations as well, but I really prefer to use a simple chart to read through the Bible. The beef I have with the format of the One Year Bible is that they only give me a snippet of a Proverb and often an incomplete Psalm. Chopping up the poetry is like yanking petals off the rose.
Having said that, I do realize this is a tool that many people enjoy using and it might be fine for a young person or a new believer who is reading through the Bible for the first time."
