"This book is on the low end of a three for me. I can't justify giving it only 2 stars, because it did keep me entertained while I read it- some parts were just laugh-out-loud funny- but the story just lacking. I find it impossible to believe that anyone as hard core as the bad guys sent after them are supposed to be are so easily outwitted and out manuvered. I thought that characters were annoying and shallowly written, and both the main characters annoyed me. Every character in this book was incredibly stupid, and plauged with either really awful luck (every bad guy) or blessed with really good luck (every good guy). I won't go into details so there are no spoilers, but really... If you want to hide a paper trail and you have that much money, and middle aged hispanic laborer is not going to be able to uncover any information for you! Seriously! I really felt that this book was asking too much of me to suspend my belief for it... Everything was way to farfetched for me. But, it did make me laugh at work, so it gets some points for that."
"Metro Girl is hilarious, charming, and filled with lots of fun and unforgettable characters. What I don't like about Metro Girl is how fast-paced it is. It's TOO fast-paced. Everything moves so quickly it's almost a race to get to the next chapter. By the second half of the book, the plot gets better and so does the humour. I agree with everyone though: it's too similar to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series because of the character traits and behaviour. She should stick to writing about Stephanie Plum or, if she's really going to write a new series, she should change everything up and not just the setting, location, and character's names; she needs to re-do the personalities and eliminate the witty banters between Hooker (lol) and Alex. Much of the secondary characters mirror those of characters present in the Plum books. Overall, I recommend it if you're looking for something similar to those books. 2.5/5 stars."
"This is the first Janet Evanovich book that I read rather than listen to on audio and I must admit that, while I liked it, I prefer to listen to her books. I chose this book because I knew that I would like it (because of previous experience with the author) and because I was spending hours at the hospital with my father, I knew that I could pick it up and put it down without losing the thread of the story. The story did not disappoint. Instead of Stephanie Plum in New Jersey, we had much the same type of character, Alexandra Barnaby, but in Baltimore, Maryland. However, the action in the book takes place in Miami, South Beach, Key West, Naples, Florida, and a deserted island off the coast of Cuba. Lots of action, lots of snappy one-liners, and lots of jeopardy. But all in fun. I think that I'm going to like this new series."
"Metro Girl is our first introduction to Alexandra "Barney" Barnaby. A girl who grew up working in her father's garage and even raced stock cars. Now she works as an adjuster for an insurance company--how boring compared to racing!
Barney's brother,Bill, is missing in Miami; literally seconds after speaking on the phone with Barney. Worried, Barney heads to Miami in search of her brother. While searching for Bill, Barney runs into an old friend from school, Judy. And meets NASCAR driver, Sam Hooker, whose yacht, it is suspected, Bill has taken for a sail. Together, with a few other characters, this trio searches for Bill while trying to outrun and outsmart everyone else who is also searching for Bill.
I love this series (I accidentally ready the 2nd book 1st) by Evanovich almost more than I love the Stephanie Plum series. This is an easy read, very funny and with lots of suspense. I believe I relate more to Barney than I do to Stephanie though."
