"I am grateful I finally got around to reading this book, though it was difficult. I read the shorter and longer texts. I found the longer text more engaging (which I was surprised by).
Julian of Norwich relates the content of sixteen visions she has which reveal Christ, his suffering, creation, the Trinity, thoughts on sin, God's love. This is a rich theologically reflective text. Well worth it.
It is written in the thirteenth century, so don't expect an easy read. Julian takes a little work."

"I remember writing some giant paper on this in college. And that is pretty much ALL I remember, except also having somehow obtained the Julian-writing-as-Julian-actually-did version (her "Shewings," if I recall correctly) and staying up all night during finals week trying to be all fancy by using the ye-olde style quotations in my paper whenever I was citing her directly.... wow, that was a repressed memory, thanks Alisa. Haven't thought about it in years, and can't quite believe I used to do things like that! I wonder whatever happened to the paper? And I wonder what Julian had to say..... and what I had to say about what she had to say.... or if I really actually read this at all (though I seem vaguely to remember drawing hearts in the margins, possibly to indicate her comments re love?). Because I actually can't remember one single thing about this book, I can only imagine that I made something up.
I can see now that the only reason I managed to graduate from college is that the Internet was not quite as easily accessible at that time. My masters degree is, by contrast, looking a bit questionable. In case anyone's wondering, I start writing these crazy book reports whenever I sit down in an effort to finish my final papers. Because the last two papers I'll hand in for this program are both due a week from Wednesday, you can expect a massive outpouring of overly long, vague reviews of books like Julian of Norwich's Showings, which I don't actually remember reading and about which I am totally unqualified to comment."
