"In this sequel to Green Rider we learn more about Karigan and her heritage as well as the background of the Green Riders. Kristen Britain again is the master of disappear; she forces you to feel the immense loneliness and pain that Karigan experiences along with that of the Sacoridians. Despite all of the sadness that seeps through these pages, Britain does manage to make light of things now and then by effortlessly making the reader laugh. The novel Green Rider was mostly read through the eyes of Karigan G’ladheon, but in the First Rider’s Call the chapters jump from character to character showing different sides of the story. For someone who loves Karigan’s point of view it will be very disappointing to find that barely half the book is from her perspective. The book’s ending is borderline anticlimactic- Kristen Britain writes the type of story that gives the feeling of “leading up to something”, but in a flash it’s over. You never get the feeling that everything’s tied up, but perhaps that’s the idea. War is impending and unavoidable- we’re left with the calm before the storm. Romance ignites in the last few chapters (I wont say between whom) which is a feeling of excitement since Romance is something Karigan has basically hide from thus far. However, the romance is just enough to tease and then throw you to the ground whimpering. I give momentous kudos to Britain for her final chapter. Kristen, if someday you ever read this I must say that while I read your words I was in the room with those green riders. I saw the awe-inspiring ceiling, I cried as the names were spoken, and I felt a great pride build in my heart. That is a rarity in many fantasy books."
