"Certainly not bad, but when I compare this book to some of the other bookmaking books I've read in recent months, this one seems a bit less interesting and varied. This would actually be a really good book for an elementary art teacher to use because the projects aren't too involved. I guess I just prefer projects that take more time. This isn't overly dumbed-down for kids, thank goodness; I firmly believe that kids can follow well-written instructions for any level. True that they may need help with things like using awls and drills, and littler kids shouldn't use scissors or utility knives without close supervision, but I think that a kid would be really happy with a book that wasn't written specifically for kids."
"Has some interesting projects and is well laid out. Irritating in that she tells some great stories about historical bindings, but provides no information about her sources."
"A very good HOW TO book. I love the idea of making my own books, to fill with my ideas, holidays and what not. Plus to make books for others so they can fill them with what they like!"
"This text includes detailed instructions for making 18 different homemade books. Each entry is complete with a color photo and illustrations of each step. The projects vary, but all use common or recycled materials. There are also brief entries on the history of book making and a variety of famous or unique books through time. This is a good choice for summer or vacation projects to be done with kids."
