"Marion Soards presents the past several years of Lukan scholarship as regards the speeches in Acts in a fairly-balanced manner. Aferwards, he takes the individual through over 100 pages of detailed, thorough, and often boring analyses of each of the speeches in Acts (mind you, his criteria for determining a speech is a bit broad so as to include one-liners). Aside from the caffeine that may be necessary during this part, it will all pay off when one sees the conclusions he draws from the analyses which are very convincing. His section on comparison to Hellenistic, Jewish, and other literature is tantalizing and seems to open up to a lot of questions with not too many answers. In the end, his conclusions are persuasive and detailed. Soards has indeed contributed much to the discussion of Lukan Speech Writing and has done so in the Engish language. As such, it is a must have for those who struggle in the reading of German."
