About this title: This debut police thriller turns on the well-known adage, "Set a psychopath to catch a psychopath." Junior homicide detective Carson Ryder solved a serial-killer case last year, thanks to the advice he received from his brother Jeremy, an imprisoned, insane serial killer himself. As a result of his work, Ryder and partner Harry Nautilus, a veteran cop, now helm the Psychopathological and Sociopathological Investigative Team, devoted to handling particularly warped crimes. "I had to reread it after spending time in Mobile. A serial killer novel with a difference: smartly written, densely plotted, and almost too clever. Though the killer's low profile makes him well-nigh un-guessable, newcomer Kerley brings his gruesome, baroque pathology to vivid life along with crazy Jeremy, sad, sexy Ava, and cocky, haunted Ryder. The whole story is told in prose as inventive as-well, as a fight to the death between embattled virtue and monstrous evil ought to be."
"A good enjoyable book detailing the link with madness and also the political moves that can go on in any workplace. The actual killer was well hidden and it leads down many deadends and takes you on red herrings a plenty. The only thing that lets the book down is the love interest which although has depth with personal problems but I found it all a little contrived. Other than that, a good book!"
